Shawls are crocheted or knitted into a "mantle of prayer." Prayers are constantly said during this process for the recipients who are suffering due to infirmity of the mind or body, poverty, sorrow at the loss of a loved one, or distress of certain matters. As the recipients turn over their needs and sufferings to God, we ask that they might receive perfect consolation, healing, guidance, and deliverance from their afflictions. A formal, inspirational prayer is attached to the completed shawl before it is blessed by one of our parish priests. Although there is no charge for the shawls, donations are greatly appreciated for the cost of materials and/or funding of this ministry. Once a month, on the second Wednesday, materials will be distributed and finished shawls will be received. We are asking for volunteers who like to crochet and knit, but most importantly, love to pray. If you are in need of a prayer shawl for yourself or others, please let us know.
The Prayer Shawl Ministry gives its members special prayer time with God resulting in someone receiving a prayerful gift of comfort.
We need additional parishioners to crochet or knit shawls. Our requests are beginning to deplete our inventory of shawls. We can also use cash donations to purchase additional yarn.
